Réunis pour leur Assemblée générale annuelle, les membres de la Maison populaire d’Argenteuil ont présenté un bilan solide d’une année marquée à la fois par des défis et par une remarquable capacité d’adaptation. Malgré des changements au sein de l’équipe et une restructuration des ateliers, l’organisme a poursuivi avec conviction sa mission fondamentale : défendre et promouvoir les intérêts des personnes analphabètes, sensibiliser la population à leur réalité et offrir des ateliers d’alphabétisation adaptés partout dans la MRC d’Argenteuil.
En 2024-2025, ce sont 171 participants, dont 74 nouveaux, qui ont bénéficié des services d’alphabétisation, allant du français au calcul, de l’informatique à la cuisine, en passant par la conversation et même un atelier journal produit par les participants eux-mêmes. Les méthodes privilégiées — langage intégré, simplification des écrits, approche ludique — permettent à chacun d’apprendre à son rythme, dans un cadre chaleureux et respectueux.
La Maison populaire joue aussi un rôle social majeur grâce à son plateau de travail en librairie, ses Rendez-vous citoyens, ses ateliers thématiques variés et ses nombreux partenariats avec les organismes du territoire. Par ces actions, l’organisme contribue à briser l’isolement, renforcer le lien social et encourager l’autonomie des participants.
Avec 1321 livres remis en circulation, des centaines d’heures d’accompagnement et une présence active dans la communauté, la Maison populaire d’Argenteuil demeure un acteur incontournable du développement social dans la MRC.
À l’aube de 2025-2026, l’organisme prévoit poursuivre la modernisation de ses outils, revitaliser sa librairie et élargir son offre d’activités. Une vision claire, portée par une équipe engagée, qui continue d’ouvrir des portes et de redonner du pouvoir aux citoyens par l’apprentissage.

The Maison Populaire d’Argenteuil: A Key Pillar of Literacy and Social Inclusion in Our Community

During its Annual General Meeting, the Maison populaire d’Argenteuil presented a strong and inspiring overview of its 2024-2025 year—one marked by restructuring, staff changes, and significant adaptability. Despite these challenges, the organization has remained steadfast in its core mission: to defend and promote the interests of adults living with low literacy, to raise awareness in the community, and to offer accessible and adapted literacy workshops across the MRC d’Argenteuil.
Throughout the year, 171 participants, including 74 newcomers, took part in the organization’s programs. Workshops covered a wide range of essential skills: French, numeracy, digital literacy, cooking, conversation, and even the production of the organization’s internal newspaper created by learners themselves. Using approaches such as integrated language learning, simplified writing, and play-based methods, the Maison populaire ensures that each person can learn at their own pace in a warm, respectful, and empowering environment.
Beyond its literacy programs, the Maison populaire plays a vital social role through its training-based used-book bookstore, its Citizen Rendez-vous conferences, its thematic creative workshops, and its partnerships with many local organizations. These initiatives help break isolation, strengthen community bonds, and build autonomy among participants.
With 1,321 books put back into circulation, hundreds of hours of learning support, and a visible presence in community events, the Maison populaire d’Argenteuil continues to stand as an indispensable social development anchor for the region.
As the organization looks ahead to 2025-2026, its priorities include improving digital tools, revitalizing the bookstore, expanding its activities, and continuing to promote literacy in all its forms. A clear and meaningful direction, proudly carried by a dedicated team whose work opens doors and empowers citizens through learning.
